# Package

{% hint style="info" icon="box-isometric" %}
A package is a physical parcel and its shipping information.
{% endhint %}

Create a package with its parcel reference and weight. Add recipient, item, carrier, customs, and delivery details when available.

### Create requirements

The create request requires these fields.

| Field              | Type         | Description                             |
| ------------------ | ------------ | --------------------------------------- |
| `packageReference` | `string`     | Your unique reference for this parcel.  |
| `weight`           | `WeightInfo` | Parcel weight and its measurement unit. |

`weight` requires both `weight` and `weightUnit`. The weight value is a number. The unit is a string, such as `kg` or `lb`.

### Package details

Use these optional fields to describe the parcel and its delivery.

| Field                         | Description                                           |
| ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| `parentOrderReference`        | Reference of the parent order.                        |
| `shippingStatus`              | Current shipping status. Use `Pending` or `Complete`. |
| `goodsDescription`            | Description of the parcel contents.                   |
| `serviceLevel`                | Delivery service: `POST`, `EXP2`, or `PUDO`.          |
| `originFulfillmentCentreCode` | Fulfillment centre that ships the parcel. |
| `eswCarrierIdentifier`        | ESW carrier identifier.                               |
| `carrierReference`            | Carrier’s reference for the parcel.                   |
| `shippingInfo`                | Shipping charge and currency.                         |
| `insuranceInfo`               | Insurance amount and currency.                        |
| `metaData`                    | Additional JSON metadata, supplied as a string.       |

`shippingInfo` and `insuranceInfo` use `PriceInfo`. Each value requires `amount` and `currency`.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://developer.esw.com/package-management/package-management-api/core-concepts/package.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
